★Sex is an integral part of our lives and essential for the continuation of the species, it is far more than just a technical necessity. The study of sex from both its physical and psychological perspectives has been practiced in India from ancient times as "VAJIKARAN science" in Ayurveda. Unlike in the west, where this is a fairly recent phenomenon and they are yet to find the proper line of distinction between sex in general and pornography in particular.

★On the other hand Maharishi Vatsayan's Kamasutra is yet unparalleled as the most comprehensive documentation ever on the practice of sex. Unfortunately, its classic treatment of the act and the art has often been misrepresented. The ancient Ayurvedic text of Charaka Samhita provided complete sexual solutions over 3000 years ago. And the time-frozen, stone-carved, erotic sculptures in the temples at Khajuraho and Konarak leave millions of visitors utterly awe-struck by their sheer beauty, elegance and variety. An undying testimony to how intrinsic sex was to the daily lives of people in ancient India. The importance of sex in our lives has remained quite unchanged.

★A sexual problem, or sexual dysfunction, refers to a problem during any phase of the sexual response cycle that prevents the individual or couple from experiencing satisfaction from the sexual activity. The sexual response cycle has four phases: excitement, plateau, orgasm, and resolution.

★Sexual dysfunction can be a result of a physical or psychological problem.

★Physical causes include diabetes, heart and vascular disease, neurological disorders, hormonal imbalances, chronic diseases such as kidney or liver failure, and alcoholism and drug abuse etc. In addition the side effects of certain medications, including some antidepressant drugs etc. can affect sexual desire and function.

★Psychological causes include work-related stress and anxiety, concern about sexual performance, marital or relationship problems, depression, feelings of guilt, and the effects of a past sexual trauma etc.

★Both men and women are affected by sexual problems. They can occur in adults of all ages. Among those commonly affected are seniors, which may be related to a decline in health associated with aging. The most common sexual problems in men are Ejaculation disorders, Erectile dysfunction and Inhibited sexual desire.

★There are different types of ejaculation disorders, such as Premature ejaculation refers to ejaculation that occurs before or soon after penetration.

Retarded ejaculation this is when ejaculation is slow to occur.

Retrograde ejaculation occurs when, at orgasm, the ejaculate is forced back into the bladder rather than through the urethra and out the end of the penis.

In some cases, premature and retarded ejaculation are caused by a lack of attraction for a partner, past traumatic events, and psychological factors, including a strict religious background that causes the person to view sex as sinful.

Premature ejaculation, the most common form of sexual dysfunction in men, often is due to nervousness over how well he will perform during sex. Certain drugs, including some antidepressants, may affect ejaculation, as can nerve damage to the spinal cord or back.

Retrograde ejaculation is common in males with diabetes who suffer from diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage). This is due to problems with the nerves in the bladder and the bladder neck that allow the ejaculate to flow backward and into the bladder. In other men, retrograde ejaculation occurs after operations on the bladder neck or prostate or after certain abdominal operations. In addition, certain medications particularly those used to treat mood disorders, may cause problems with ejaculation.

★Erectile Dysfunction or ED is defined as the inability to attain and maintain an erection suitable for intercourse. Causes of erectile dysfunction include diseases affecting blood flow, such as atherosclerosis ,nerve disorders, psychological factors such as stress, depression and performance anxiety and may be due to injury to the penis, Chronic illness, certain medications etc.

★Inhibited sexual desire or loss of libido refers to a decrease in desire for interest in sexual activity. Reduced libido can result from physical or psychological factors. It has been associated with low levels of the hormone testosterone. It also may be caused by psychological problems such as anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties or medical illnesses such as diabetes and high blood pressure. And certain medications, including some antidepressants.

★The success of treatment for sexual problems depends on the underlying cause. Ayurveda is the first organized medical system to talk about sexology or Vajikarana. Ayurveda VAJIKARAN gives the best way to Solve these Problems. ★Vajikaran therapy is said to revitalize all the seven dhatus (body elements), therefore, restores equilibrium and health. Keeping in mind the concept of vajikaran as described in the texts of Ayurveda, it definitely offers a solution to minimize the shukra (sperm and ovum) defects and to ensure a healthy progeny.

★The treatment adopted in ayurveda to increase libido, quality and quantity of semen, duration of erection and to treat infertility effectively is known as VAAJIKARANA.

★Stree (female) is the greatest of all the vajikaran Dravya as said by charakh. Before vajikaran, pancha karma therapy is advised. Vajikaran is good for health and influence mental health also and psyche (mind) is considered as the origin of momentum for sexual desire. Vajikaran thus deals not only with modes of increasing sexual vigor but also psychosomatic disorders.

★Rasayan drugs acts inside the human body by modulating the neuro-endocrino-immune system. They act on higher center of the brain, i.e., the hypothalamus and limbic system. Vajikaran also claims to have anti-stress, adaptogenic actions, which helps to alleviate anxiety associated with sexual desire and performance. A study shows that administration of vajikaran rasayana modulates the level of the pituitary hormones FSH and LH. This in parts can explain the positive effect of the herbs on sexual functioning.

★Aphrodisiac for men according to the texts have been divided into five categories. >Promoting production of semen: (milk, ghee, onion vidari, musali, gokshura, shatavari, yashtimadhu and semen from various other animals). >Promoting fertilization capacity in semen: (brahmi, shatavari, katuka, guduchi, amalaki, bala. >Herbs that increase libido: (akarakarabh, saffron, clove, garlic, pippali). >Tonics to combat premature ejaculation: (nutmeg, ashwagandha, chandhan, jatamansi, kapikachchu). >The texts have warned that it is important that a person not only pays attention to these herbs but also to the principles of virilization such as detoxification before the consumption of drugs as well as to gain control over one’s senses.
